Find your JOY (again)

These three. It's the reason I started coding - their little personalities were all so different, and honestly I didn't know how to wrap my mind around it all. I felt overwhelmed and defeated, and worried that I was stifling their spirits in my pressure to get them to conform to "sameness" (for my own sanity). Then first time I coded each of them, I saw the vast differences in their personalities come through in their results. My oldest is (at her worst) likely to ignore her own needs for others, my middle child internalizes EVERYTHING, and my youngest is extremely sensitive to verbal criticism. A friend of mine (who is also a child psychologist) said that the biggest mistake she sees parents make is trying to discipline all of their children in the same way - i.e., taking away electronics, etc. - because not all consequences mean the same thing for every child. Giving a stern look to my oldest and youngest children often levels them, while my middle child is unaffected by it - as in, "All I got was a look?" [continues doing whatever she was doing]

Each time I coded them, it was like their internal lights switched back on. I couldn't believe it. So I continued by coding myself, my husband, my parents, my friends...then my friends started asking me to code their kiddos, their friends, etc. Next I coded all of our little fur babies. We all said the same thing...it was like we got our JOY back!!

Now I get the blessed opportunity to code individuals whom I've never met, many of whom have been struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, suicidal thoughts. The lightness of spirit and restored sense of joy in these precious souls has been humbling to witness, and I thank God for the chance to have worked with each and every one of them.

Love and blessings,

Kristin
